Six signature directions for Mara

Each one is a genuine drawing of the name — not a font — made by the same studio that draws the paid commission, with the design decisions stated under it.

Drawn from the name · 6 directions · capital M · hover one to see it in use

Understated · flowing · fully readable

It gives itself room, and reads as unhurried because of it.

the full name · underlined in one return stroke

A restrained and dramatic hand. No single letter is pushed past its neighbors.

Confident · flowing · signature-legible

Everything rounds, nothing is cornered.

the full name · closed with a small loop

An unbroken and urgent hand. Only 6 pen lifts in the whole thing. It is the rare one that ties off with a small loop instead of flying away.

Commanding · sharp · signature-legible

The capital dominates, and the rest of the name follows quietly.

the full name · closed with a small loop

A theatrical and upright hand. One letter is pushed well past the proportions of its neighbors. Almost nothing else here ties off with a small loop instead of flying away. The "r" in "Mara" is the letter carrying it, because that is where your hand is already fastest.

Confident · sharp · fully readable

Pressure where it presses, hairline where it lifts.

the full name · a swept capital · underlined in one return stroke

A generous and deliberate hand. It spends 39 loops getting through your name.

Understated · sharp · signature-legible

The capital keeps its place, which puts the emphasis on the whole name.

the full name · a swept capital

A long-running and angular hand. It runs 5.4 times wider than it is tall. It is the rare one that adds no closing gesture at all.

Commanding · flowing · fully readable

Written at speed, and it shows in the best way.

the full name · a swept capital · underlined in one return stroke

A deliberate and generous hand. It is built in 12 separate strokes.

What Mara gives a designer

The capital M carries the mark. There are 2 distinct professional constructions of it on the studio's shelf, and which one a design commits to changes the whole gesture.

After the capital, Mara runs entirely at x-height — no ascenders, no tails — so the whole middle of the mark is a single calm band, and the capital and the closing gesture do all the talking.

Mara is a compact name. Nothing needs abbreviating; the six directions below spend their effort on character instead.

Making it yours

These studies are drawn on the first name alone, because that is how the question is usually asked — but a working signature is built on your full name: the second capital, the balance between the two words, and the short everyday version are where the real design decisions live.

The studio draws twenty directions for your full name in about a minute, and the kit — the files, the report that explains the design, and the stroke-order lesson — is what the three you choose become.
