Six signature directions for Uma
Each one is a genuine drawing of the name — not a font — made by the same
studio that draws the paid commission, with the design decisions stated under it.
Drawn from the name · 6 directions · capital U · hover one to see it in use
Understated · flowing · fully readable
Compact, with its weight gathered in one place.
the full name · finished on a long sail
An angular and restrained hand. The turns are cut rather than curved. The "r" in "Worth" is the letter carrying it, because that is where your hand is already fastest.
Confident · flowing · signature-legible
Tightly massed, so it holds together small.
the full name · a swept capital · closed with a small loop
A long-running and restrained hand. It runs 4.2 times wider than it is tall. It is the rare one that ties off with a small loop instead of flying away.
Commanding · sharp · signature-legible
Written at speed, and it shows in the best way.
the full name · a swept capital · finished on a long sail
A deliberate and generous hand. It is built in 10 separate strokes.
Confident · sharp · fully readable
Nothing curls that does not have to, and nothing is missing.
the full name · a swept capital · finished on a long sail
A rounded and airy hand. Every turn is rounded off.
Understated · sharp · signature-legible
One letter does the performing, and the others hold still for it.
the full name · finished on a long sail
A level and dramatic hand. The capital is only 1.6 times the height of the letters after it.
Commanding · flowing · fully readable
The capital dominates, and the rest of the name follows quietly.
the full name · a swept capital · closed with a small loop
A rounded and even hand. Every turn is rounded off. Almost nothing else here ties off with a small loop instead of flying away.
What Uma gives a designer
Everything starts with the U. It is one of the two capitals the studio draws a single way — there is no second construction of a U worth having — so the six directions below separate themselves on how that letter is treated and how the mark closes, not on redrawing it.
After the capital, Uma runs entirely at x-height — no ascenders, no tails — so the whole middle of the mark is a single calm band, and the capital and the closing gesture do all the talking.
At 3 letters, Uma is short enough to sign at full length every time — the design question is presence, not speed.
Making it yours
These studies are drawn on the first name alone, because that is how the question is
usually asked — but a working signature is built on your full name: the second capital,
the balance between the two words, and the short everyday version are where the real
design decisions live.
The studio draws twenty directions for your full name in about a minute, and the kit —
the files, the report that explains the design, and the stroke-order lesson — is what
the three you choose become.
